Pop Up Penguin
Pattern #1453: Antarctic Fair Isle for Wild in Art’s Pop Up Penguin Sculpture Trail.
Wild in Art is bringing a second sculpture trail to Christchurch on 29 November 2020, including 50 large penguin sculptures, sponsored by companies and decorated by established and emerging artists.
The penguins will pop up across Christchurch on a public art trail that will celebrate all the unique parts of our city. The penguins will highlight themes like climate change, community, Antarctica, creativity, innovation and exploration.
Having participated in the first sculpture trail – Christchuch Stands Tall – I was thrilled to have my design selected and to once again embark on the daunting task of painting another creature.
Imagining what kind of jersey a grandma hoiho might knit for a young penguin, I have wrapped up my penguin in a fair isle stitch pattern.
