Behind the scenes of the creation of ‘Giraffa spatiumnolovacuam’!
Commissioned by the good people at Gap Filler for the Christchurch Stands Tall project, my giraffe joins the rank of 47 other 2.5m tall fibre glass beauties, stationed around Christchurch for 2 months over the summer of 2014/2015.
Artists were given access to a workshop space out at the Christchurch International Airport, so blank giraffes were strung up in the space and worked on over the course of a month. A brilliant experience watching each giraffe come to life.
P.S. Fun fact: The collective noun for a group of giraffes standing around is a ‘tower’, but a group of giraffes running is called a ‘jenny’! Nice!
